Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of criminal damage after a protester was filmed trying to set light to the Union flag at The Cenotaph during a Black Lives Matter demonstration.

An activist was seen clambering onto the war memorial dedicated to the millions of lives lost during the First World War before attempting to set fire to the flag in Whitehall, London.

It took place on June 7 as protesters clashed with police - leaving 26 officers injured - and a day before the monument to Winston Churchill in Westminster was defaced and daubed with the words 'was a racist' on its plinth.
